Basel to Paris

Well, I know of at least one fan of the blog who really cares about public transportation. So today we return to our trip last weekend to Paris. We start in Basel. And take a tram down to the old railroad station. Very beautiful.

While I was taking a picture, one of the trams came by.

There are trams everywhere in Basel, more than any other city we have visited. With our hotel reservation came a free trip from the airport to the hotel on the trams. All we needed was the print out of the reservation. Then when we got to the hotel they gave us a two-day pass for the public transportation. Brilliant.

We took a high speed TGV from Basel to Paris. Here is the inside of the station, with our train on the right.

It took us 3 hours from station to station, at times traveling at 320 kilometres per hour, about 200 miles per hour. I read that if they improve all the tracks the time could go down to 2.25 hours. The only problem was that when we were moving really fast it was a bit harder to look out the window at the scenery. It was all a blur.
We arrived at the Gare d'lest. We visited the tourist information center, picked up a weekend Paris Visite metro pass for the weekend, and our museum pass and we were set.

We hopped on a metro and in no time we were on Rue Cler, one of our favorite streets in Paris.
