We lived in Dresden for 9 months.

Hi, I am Eric Muller. My wife and I lived in Dresden from September, 2008 to June, 2009. We lived in a villa in Kleinzschachwitz and worked at the MPI. If you are going to travel to Dresden, poke around my posts and you will discover fantastic places to visit.

Winter wonderland, and a Car

Even the ducks looked cold yesterday. Indeed, I wonder how they can paddle around in water that is so cold. Last night is was -20 degrees centigrade, the temperature of your kitchen freezer!

There was a fair amount of ice floating down the Elbe. The church across the Elbe, Maria am Wasser, was lost a bit in the fog rising up from the river.

The ferries were having some problems crossing the river. On one ferry the rudder was icing up. The ice was flowing down slowy, but one could hear it banging against the boats. I was amazed that this man was strolling his baby in the -10 weather. Earlier I had seen him pushing the stroller on the path of packed snow along the Elbe. Here he is looking at the passenger ferry as it unloads.

I am happy to report that our snowmen are still standing and welcoming people.

Finally, the most amazing news. We are renting a car!
We have a very reasonable rate from the Toyota people in Radebeul.

Our landlady was just fantastic in setting this up. First she drove us around for a few hours one evening looking at used cars. Then she decided with us that they were too expensive. She talked more to the people at Toyota, where she had bought her car. It seemed that Toyota at Radebeul, a city just north, leased cars. We got a fantastic rate, thanks to her. She was so excited when she came up stairs to tell us about it. It is a very nice car called an Auris. In a few weeks we will get a new car, with no kilometers on it, to replace this car, with 12,000. Very sweet. Again, we are renting our flat from some really beautiful people.
