We lived in Dresden for 9 months.
Hi, I am Eric Muller. My wife and I lived in Dresden from September, 2008 to June, 2009. We lived in a villa in Kleinzschachwitz and worked at the MPI. If you are going to travel to Dresden, poke around my posts and you will discover fantastic places to visit.

Pillnizt to Blasewitz on the Dampfschiffahrt
We left Pillnitz after our tour of the Museum, though we could have stayed the day there. The grounds are so beautiful, and we only saw them briefly. Many people from the Dresden area, as well as tourists, come for a relaxing day. But we had other plans.
We took the steam paddle boat "Dresden" down river to Blasewitz, the next stop. What was great fun was to see our bike path from the river. Pictures from the near bank show all the houses, and our favorite Bäckerei and Konditorei, Siemank, that we pass every day on our bike trip to the Max Plank. On the far bank are horses, more beautiful homes tucked in the hills, and some biergartens.
As a side note: If you look in the pictures you will see many paddle clubs. Dresdners love to get out on the Elbe and paddle, either in kayaks, rafts, canoes or rowboats. We even saw some teenagers rowing a boat that was a miniature Viking long boat.
You will see one picture of my favorite paddle club. It has, of all things, a Tepee on its front lawn. Every morning when I pass that I think about how surprised American Indians of the Plains would be if they saw a Tepee on the banks of the Elbe.
Well, at least I never failed to be surprised.
