We lived in Dresden for 9 months.

Hi, I am Eric Muller. My wife and I lived in Dresden from September, 2008 to June, 2009. We lived in a villa in Kleinzschachwitz and worked at the MPI. If you are going to travel to Dresden, poke around my posts and you will discover fantastic places to visit.

Maria am Wasser

From Maria am Wasser

The bike ride home is the longest part of my day. Often there are strong head winds. Sometimes there is biting cold. Sometimes it rains. Always I am a bit tired. As the bike follows the curves of the Elbe, I always look ahead for this little church.

The church was originally built in 1600
. The flood in 2002 came into the sanctuary, and caused major damage. She is now healed. Like so many churches she has always been a sanctuary for those in need.

She is my beacon in the night. When I see her I know that soon I will be home. She lifts my spirit. I feel comforted, even while the legs are aching, or the cheeks are stinging. Even when the evening ride was delightful, the sight of her reawakens my heart to the joy of home.

The spirit needs pillars to support the weight we carry. I am grateful for Maria am Wasser.

Our reading for today is from Matthew 11: 28.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
